Here are some actions you can take to stop the spread of unsolicited email, or spam:

• Make sure that anti-virus software is installed on your computer and kept up to date. Viruses and spam go hand-in-hand.
• Enable your operating system's built-in firewall, or buy a third-party firewall to prevent unwanted access to your computer.
• Use email software that has spam filters to block unsolicited messages.
• Do not open email attachments unless they are from a known source and have been scanned with anti-virus software.
• Be extremely wary of messages from people who you do not know. Do not reply to spam email, even to "unsubscribe." This often just verifies that you are a valid target for even more spam.
• We strongly recommend that you avoid using Outlook or Outlook Express for email, due to extreme vulnerability to viruses that can access the address books of those programs, using them to find more suitable targets.

If you have received a suspicious message from "someone @ marintellect.com," you can be assured that it did not come from us. Unfortunately, it is relatively easy for a spammer or a virus to forge email messages so they appear to come from a reputable source. We have seen unsolicited messages with reply-to addresses from IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, the US Army and many others, including Marintellect. These forgeries are likely to contain viruses or links to sites that may compromise your computer's security.
